Full or Partial Dentures

Thanks to modern technology, we are able to regain natural, beautiful smiles through the use of dentures, but the most important part of keeping that smile is maintenance and care. Cleaning your prosthetic piece every day will keep you looking great. Just like real teeth, plaque can buildup and cause odors and dullness if dentures are not cleaned properly and regularly.

Here are some tips for simple cleaning:

  1. Filling your sink with water before cleaning can keep your dentures from breaking or chipping if dropped.
  2. Rinse the piece thoroughly in cool or warm water, removing loose food particles. Don’t use hot water as it can cause your dentures to warp.
  3. After the dentures are damp apply a cleaning paste and use a soft bristled brush to clean all surfaces of the piece. Do not use bleach, vinegar, soap or ordinary toothpaste to clean your dentures unless directed to do so by your dentist. Also avoid using a stiff bristled brush for cleaning, as is can scratch or damage the material.
  4. Rinse the piece well under the faucet to remove the cleaning paste and then soak overnight in a denture cleaner.
  5. Before reinserting your dentures, brush your gums, tongue and palate with a soft bristled brush to remove any residual plaque and stimulate circulation.
